15 Jan Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to the pursuit of social justice which is also at the core of our work in PUC.
There are many quotes from Dr. King I could share today but one that is most definitely relevant to us is the following:
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”
We are experiencing a critical time in our country’s evolution when educators must take extra special care to focus on ensuring that our students are able to think critically and also nurture strength of and honorable character in them.
Dr. King also said, “I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
On this day when we reflect on the amazing contributions and life of Dr. King, we must recommit ourselves to ensuring that our students grow to be adults with integrity who embrace and honor diversity and live their lives committed to taking action in support of social justice.
